We have been going to Lucas Carton for 40 years and it has always been a special place for us. Last year we went to Le Marche for the first time - very much enjoyed it. This time however it was extremely disappointing and was the worst meal we have had in France and in London. Whilst my soup was fine, but unremarkable, the calf’s liver with a thick smear of mashed potato was not only presented in a most unappealing way (thick dark lump - not sliced with no garnish or sauce) but was not delicious - in fact I had to leave most of it. The liver had the artery vessels throughout making it chewy in parts. I had recently had calves lives in both the UK and in Vienna where it was finely sliced, tender, and presented in a way that was pleasing to the eye and was delicious for the palate. The Le Marche version failed in every aspect. The side dish of sautéed spinach was dark grey (either because it was frozen not fresh or overcooked or both) and was bitter and equally disappointing. My husband’s meal was a coquette - again unappealing to looked at and so thickly crumbed and salty that it was impossible for him to finish it. The boeuf bourguignon also was just one big lump of cooked meat, albeit in a sauce, but the lack of additional garnish or vegetables, such as mushrooms or small onions meant there were no subtleties or balance in the dish. After repeated disappointing offerings we declined dessert (although one was included in my meal de jour) but they were neither exciting or interesting). Previously little sweets are presented at the meal’s end, but were not on offer this time. Lastly the service was quite ordinary. There was only one other table with diners that night which did seem to receive considerable attention from all the waiters who looked in their direction with their backs to us. At one point I was on the verge of standing up to tap them on the shoulder to ask for my wine to be topped up, and then for the bill at the end. To sum up this was a disappointing dining experience in every way. I would not recommend Le Marche to anyone, and it makes me worry that Le Table would also be a let down. Sadly, our long-standing affection for Lucas Carton must end. Ann and Robert Black
Great very wonderful service from Alex.
Rapport Qualite Prix : CORRECT
Starter was amazing, Main course (fish) - ok, but nothing special, dessert - nice, but nothing unexpected
Prima klassiek Frans restaurant.
Nice restaurant, good food, good service. Drinks and water are overpriced
Very disappointing dishes, bland and uninspired. Plates not warmed, lukewarm food. Quality of the meat (lamb) very poor.
Although the good was good, the staff seemed to be overwhelmed and out of control of the room. Several tables took more than 90mn to go though the lunch set when they had asked for a 60min service to catch a meeting later. We had wine dropped on our table (not cleaned), bread/butter asked and never delivered, one glass of wine forgotten, chipped glass and not perfectly clean dishes, salt and pepper missing, etc. Overall quite a disappointment for a 1-star Michelin venue!
Le Marché du Lucas Carton
Dear Mr , Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your lunch at Le Marché de Lucas, our "brasserie" (without star). We are sorry that this experience has been disappointing for you, and have shared your feedback with the entire team. Regarding the presentation of dishes, it does not reflect the image we want given our bistrot formula, and your criticism is important for our future improvement. We hope to welcome you soon so that you can discover our Michelin starred restaurant and the cuisine of our head chef Julien DUMAS. Sincerely, Loïc MORVAN Executive Director
Food really great, staff very friendly and even the chef came asking for feedback and to discuss. Experience to be repeated.
I am so sorry I was disappointed with this lunch as I was looking forward for the experience. Food was nothing extraordinary and while the waitress was nice and smiley she did not take the time to explain anything we had on the plates, we had to ask to find out what the ingredients were. Only two tables of two were there for lunch so it was not a matter of time nor availability. I had rabbit that day and I couldn’t eat much as I was tasting more of the sauce than the flavor of the meat. All in all I wouldn’t recommend lunch at this place.
The setting, service and meals were excellent in every way.
Good value & good food
It was a quiet night so service was prompt. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Nothing to fault.
restaurant à recommander
Really beautiful setting, excellent food.
A most enjoyable « market dinner » in a great tradtional setting and excellent service...all this for a very very reasonable price!
Bonne pioche !!!
Services are super and the location is right next to the Madeleine, very convenient. We loved the classic French cuisines and thought it could be even better if there’s more choices on the menu or if chef can add some fusion features to the dishes.
Que du bonheur!
