En arrivant sur la place Longemalle, à part le mobilier urbain flambant neuf, on se laisse en général vite frapper par la devanture d’inspiration néogothique de l’hôtel La Cigogne et son restaurant du même nom. Construit au début du XXe siècle, l’intérieur de ce bâtiment résolument art-déco déploie des vitraux fleuris incisés dans un revêtement acajou. Quand les modernistes de la fin du XIXe ont eût fini d’aplanir les remparts de la ville, un passage plus marqué a commencé à colorer la ville. En particulier le quartier des rues-basses avec la place Longemalle, donnant anciennement sur un port de commerce peu ragoûtant, qui a vu une de ses bâtisses d’habitation se muer en palais romantique. Revenons à nos barigoules et autre mousselines. Le service est très attentionné avec le (devenu trop rare) service sur guéridon, avec bien sûr découpe à table, pour cette cuisine traditionnelle française racée.

Le chef, Nicolas Pasquier, a connu quelques itérations fructueuses à Paris avant de se décider à descendre sur Genève. C’est à l’Auberge du Lion d’Or, sous les ordres d’Henri Large, qu’il entre dans les assiettes genevoises, avant de prendre les rênes de La Cigogne. Il nous propose une carte résolument tournée vers le large avec du rouget, du cabillaud ou encore du turbot dans une tradition de carte courte.

    I appreciated the service and the food. We took the Menu and each plate was well prepared and presented. The ingredients used are from the season and the fish was fresh and tasty. Excellent desserts. Overall a very good experience.

    Fabulous place, warm atmosphere, discrete. Excellent food, interesting without being over the top. Great for business lunches, great for a meal with friends in the evening. Welcoming staff. I can't think of a single thing bad to say about the place, it's all good!

    All very good. However, this offer no longer includes water, glass of wine and tea/coffee - only drink is welcome cocktail. Therefore, it differs little from the Menu dû Marche - one additional course added for the extra expense.

    Arrived for restaurant week, expected an interesting and rustic restaurant. Service was clumsy and awkward, food was wayyyy too ambitious, water melon and balsamic sauce? Really expected more

    Price for menu du marché (CHF 49.- for combination of starter and main course) is fair in consideration of quality and display. Paying CHF 12.- for a Badoit and CHF 7.- for an espresso is however "over the top" - especially that the espresso was just average!
