The surrounding area is amazing. Highly recommend walking up the driveway and talking in the gardens. Paolo was hilarious, kind and helpful. He gave us free champagne and cookies for dessert. All the food we had was incredible. Highly recommend venturing outside the city for this gem!

Absolutely amazing. Paolo made us feel like family as soon as we walked in the door, the setting was beautiful and charming, and the food was so delicious! Definitely a highlight of our entire Rome trip. Just go! It’s worth it! Look at the menu but just order whatever Paolo tells you to!

The place can be a little hard to find if it's your first time. But once you park your car in the lot, turn right and walk up the small hill. The restaurant is at the top. We were welcomed warmly by the owner, a grandfatherly gentleman who led us through a beautiful home and into the main dining room. He took our order as if we were family, poured us some wine, and brought out bread and a buttery spreadable cheese that I could have eaten all day. Our appetizer of cold cuts and roasted zucchini and eggplant could have been a meal. My primi of pasta amatriciana was rich with tomato sauce and pork cheeks. My spouse chose the spaghetti with artichokes and pork cheeks. Generous portions that made us wish we hadn't also ordered a secondo. But the next dishes of the chicken specialty of the house and the veal saltimbocca revived our appetites. The family who owns the restaurant is friendly, welcoming, warm, and engaging. Before we left, the owner gave us an autographed poster of the medieval tower on the property.

I had the most amazing experience at Hostaria Antica Roma. The service was amazing and the food was so delicious. Best food I’ve had in Rome. It is out of the way so a taxi is needed but it’s worth it. The food is reasonably price for the quality you receive. You can tell they love their guests and I was spoilt. It was in a beautiful setting so good be quite romantic for couples. I was solo but still had a lovely time by myself. Once again the service was the best I have ever had. I will be returning.

Paolo was great as was his family! We arrived early before the restaurant opened and they accomodated us with a table to wait and drinks. The meal was great and the conversations with Paolo were even better. Great atmosphere and scenario. I highly recommend this restaurant!

1,000x worth the short taxi ride from downtown Rome to this amazing little restaurant in a garden/ruins. I’m not over exaggerating and I haven’t left reviews for any of the other restaurants we went to our whole trip. This was the best restaurant we have gone to in Italy, not just Rome. I’m telling you the lasagna was AMAZING. Honestly it was all good. Paolo was so kind and so FUN! After eating there tonight we will be changing our plans and will be back tomorrow for sure!

This is a very special restaurant. Do yourself a favor and head outside Rome and discover this special area along the Appian Way. Paolo is a wonderful host and will entertain you with stories, history and explanation of the restaurants mission and charm. The lasagna is the best I ever had. If you are lucky enough, Paolo will treat you to his garlic spread which should be sold at Whole Foods! We will return every trip!

This is a family run business. Paolo the host was amazing! He made us feel very welcomed and was incredibly hospitable. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the food was delicous. Will definitely be returning my next trip to Rome. Best place we've dined at in Italy so far!

We dined at this restaurant with our kids. It was an amazing an experience. The food was delicious, with recipes that were 2000 yrs old. We felt like we were experiencing the history of Rome. Our waiter/owner was also wonderful. He shared stories with us and engaged, which made the experience even more special.

The highlight of our trip! Food was amazing. Paulo the owner was friendly and made us feel like family. We were here on our last trip to Rome, excited to return and every bit as wonderful as we remembered. Must try the garlic cheese and the “ancient” dishes. Best Triamisu.
