Friendly staff but disappointing, boring food. Restaurant could do with renovations. Would not return.
Service was great. So friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious. Perfect dinner spot for business meal, family gathering or date.
We had a great night at Cistern. The service was excellent , friendly and helpful. The food was delicious & fresh. Would definitely recommend Cistern.
No atmosphere, only 2 people in restaurant. Everything overpriced, mediocre food. Even outdated cover charge, what for? Two bread rolls? Avoid
What was once a reference in Lisbon, some 20 years ago, is now just a pale image of a good restaurant. The entrance looks like a cheap joint although there's a first floor room that looks quite better despite the run down appearance. Looks like there's never been a refurbishment until now. The menu is a set of uninteresting traditional recipes and the food is quite vulgar. The quality of the ingredients just isn't there and some descriptions are not what comes to the table. Prices are quite high for the quality offered and wine costs twice as much as it should. Very small choice of wines. Service is ok and waiting times are correct.
Very much a special place with a personal touch at each table. Excellent food, nice atmosphere, not a tourist spot. Go!
Vwry authentic and great quality!
Very authentic place, possibly not what we were expecting. It was really quiet.....suggest some music for first people there. Had the tuna - very salty. However, owners were sweet.
Friendly and attentive service, lovely old building. We asked for recommendations and the waiter/proprietor (?) described a dish of sliced tuna, cooked gently in white wine, olive oil, garlic and coriander. I said it sounded wonderful. He replied "it is", and it was! A delightful, light, yogurt/cheesecake dessert followed, and at the end of the meal we were presented with a glass of Ginja sour cherry liqueur, I think on the house. At around 70 euros for the two of us it was the most expensive meal we had in Lisbon, but that included quite a good bottle of wine.
While it was not easy to find this restaurant, the mysterious search made it that much more rewarding. We had to ring the doorbell to be admitted, but then were warmly welcomed and treated very well. The owner helped us with our order since the menu was only in Portuguese. He was great though, and deboned my sea bass for me, which was excellent. The meals we got (sea bass and tuna) were not fancy, but they were simply prepared and very delicious. We also got dessert and they treated us with local dessert wine that was a special treat. We would highly recommend Cisterna!
Welcoming family run restaurant. No frills, just wholesome, delicious home cooked meal.
The food was delicious and prepared in a healthy manner. It was the most enjoyable meal I had during the 12 days I spent in Portugal. The food was not swimming in olive oil. The grouper I ordered was excellent. The vegetables and potatoes were done perfectly.
Very friendly service and good traditional food!
Great staff. We both had the grilled sea bass. Simple but very good. Looks strange in front but well worth the trip. Off the beaten path
Wonderful food- and very attentive service! Thoroughly enjoyed our evening there.
Wonderful food and warm welcome in a 400 year old building
In few words: Good food with great service. Just tell the owner what you'd like (fish, beef, etc...) and let him recommend the specials of the day. Apparently the menu is updated frequently. More than enjoying the good food make sure to talk to the staff and hear their stories about the origin of the dishes and the 400-year-old house the restaurant is. Besides Portuguese I heard them speak good English and Spanish to other patrons. The dining room is on the first floor (or second, if you count ground floor as the first). You have to ring the bell at the door and they'll come to pick you up. Yes, unusual, but don't let it scare you off. For me it gives the feeling you're visiting a friend and knocking on their door. I read some recent comments about them not accepting credit cards. They do now.
The food was very bad. We had two fishes. One was too cooked and the other simply burnt. We went there because of the good comments we could read in tripadviser and it was a complete failure.
Service was great but food was just too salty even for "typical" fish. Decor is upstairs in a 400 year old building that has seen better days. Not what we were hoping for on our final night in Lisbon.
Lovely old building. You ring the bell and you are ushered upstairs to lovely surroundings. Owner very helpful in choosing food and wine.
