El fotógrafo mexicano Óscar Polanco vive en Madrid y por eso el restaurante que ha montado con el cocinero español Guillermo Ortega es un reflejo de esa mezcla entre las culturas que ambos representan. Aquí se fusiona la gastronomía del país norteamericano con la mediterránea. De ahí que Cantina Roo no pueda encasillarse exclusivamente como un restaurante mexicano. Es cierto que la base son los platos del otro lado del Atlántico pero el chef, que estuvo en Santceloni (dos estrellas MICHELIN), juega con libertad para crear sus propias recetas: innovadoras, divertidas, creativas, a menudo sofisticadas y siempre muy pensadas y elaboradas con productos de aquí como el marisco, el aceite, los ibéricos, los quesos…

La creación más emblemática y representativa de la casa es el Ravioli relleno de huitlacoche, con queso emmental, crema y chile de árbol en polvo. Jamás habías visto un plato de pasta mexicano, ¿verdad? Pues aquí lo tienes.

    We are very disappointed that El Tenedor has included this Cantina Roo among its options for the Inside Menu. We are very familiar with the concept of tasting menus but the portions here were really very scarce. At one point my wife and I thought that they were serving just one menu for the two of us. In the end we left hungry. What is worst we came across the Chef exiting the restaurant and said to him that while the dishes were ok (the raviolis were remarkable) the portions were so small... He was rude to me and my wife and not willing to hear anything from us. This is the very first time this happens to us at a restaurant in Spain. No courtesy, no apologies. A lot to learn from client service. Over the course of the years we have had all kinds of meals in Spain from the very expensive ones (El Bulli, Sant Celoni, Akelarre, Arzak) to the very simple places such as Sacha, De la Riva, Casa Lucio, El Puchero, Market Madrid etc) WeI would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.     Good food and nice little restaurant, however was difficult to order given no English speakers. There was an English menu, but was still challenging to order from this. I’m sure would be much better if fluent in Spanish
